Solo, a new modern European restaurant & bar located in the heart of Kingston upon Thames at 88 London Road, has opened as part of new hotel The Kingston 1.
Led by Head Chef Marco Palazzo, who has gained experience working globally for the Jamie Oliver Group and more recently as Head Chef at Seabird at The Hoxton hotel, Solo welcomes guests from breakfast to dinner, serving a relaxed all-day dining. The menu includes delicious dishes such as Steak Frites with Wild Garlic Butter and Rocket; Buttermilk Chicken Burger with Harissa Mayo; and Superfood Salad with Avocado and Black Olive Tapenade. Accompanying them is a range of fresh, colourful juices and smoothies, as well as wines, beers and expertly crafted cocktails from Solo Bar.
From Thursday to Saturday, the spotlight is on the Chef’s Menu – a more elevated offering showcasing the modern Italian techniques that influence Chef Marco’s cuisine, while celebrating the best British produce. Highlight creations are the Seared Octopus Tentacle on Shoestring Potatoes with Trout Caviar; Seafood Scotch Egg with Salsa Verde and Nasturtium; Spinach & Ricotta Cannelloni with Purple Basil Pesto; and Fillet Steak with Burnt Onion Puree and Beef & Red Wine Sauce. From the dessert menu, the Orange Polenta Cake with Honey Cream and Amaretti Biscuit makes for the most deliciously indulgent ending and is set to become a favourite among diners.
Breakfast is served from 7.30am to 11am, featuring classics such as Eggs Florentine and Royale alongside more gourmet options, like Shakshuka with Spicy Tomato Sauce accompanied by Toasted Sourdough. And of course, typically British breakfast favourites including Grilled Smokey Bacon and Cumberland Sausage Brioche Buns, also available to take-away.
Solo restaurant & bar welcomes guests in a casual yet elegant setting that perfectly reflects the spirit of its menus, adorned with sleek tables and industrial-style lights. Plenty of natural light ensures the perfect ambiance for Insta-foodies who will want to share Chef Marco’s creations. Outside Solo, the restaurant’s outdoor area, is available for guests to enjoy al fresco dining during those sunny summer days ahead.
Giving Kingston locals a new hotspot to share pleasant evenings, Solo Bar boasts expertly crafted cocktails made with premium spirits, as well as a selection of wines, Champagnes and beers. Worth mentioning is the Martini Collection, featuring signature cocktail Solo Martini (LoneWolf Cloudy Lemon Gin, vanilla vodka, Grand Marnier, lemon juice) along with five classics such as Espresso Martini and Pornstar Martini. For fun alcohol-free moments, Solo Bar offers a range of delicious and colourful non-alcoholic cocktails, like Mango Mule, made with cucumber, honey syrup, mango puree, fresh lime juice and ginger beer.

About Head Chef Marco Palazzo
Marco’s passion for food is rooted in his childhood, cooking with his grandparents who helped him find his culinary influences through classic British and Italian recipes. At 21 he joined the Jamie Oliver Group who would be his professional home for eight years. Starting at their Covent Garden restaurant, Marco grew to become part of the opening team at their New Delhi branch in 2015, to then head other new Jamie’s Italian restaurants in London. In 2019, Marco moved to lead Seabird at The Hoxton hotel as Head Chef. From developing the full menu, to recruiting and training chefs at all levels, Marco contributed to the further success of the London venue.
In 2020, Marco joined new hotel The Kingston 1, taking the lead of its modern European restaurant Solo. In addition to the daily menu, Marco’s ‘Chef’s Menu’ – available Thursday to Saturday – is influenced by contemporary Italian cooking techniques and celebrates local British produce with signature dishes including Seared Octopus Tentacle on Shoestring Potatoes with Trout Caviar, and Seafood Scotch Egg with Salsa Verde and Nasturtium. From the dessert menu, the Orange Polenta Cake with Honey Cream and Amaretti Biscuit is set to become a guest favourite.
